Description:
In 1957, an order was placed for diesel-electric locomotives intended for the southern region of British Railways. At that time they were known as BRCW Type 3s. These were 2o-2o (Bo-Bo) passenger locomotives with Sulzer engines with a capacity of 1,550 hp, which allowed speeds up to 137 km/h. They were equipped with electrical equipment from Crompton Parkinson, which is why the nickname "Cromptons" was forever stuck to them. The rare BR Class 33 — a real classic — is now available in the Train Sim World game as a diesel locomotive. The first BRCW Type 3s rolled off the assembly line in 1959 and began operation in December; the first batch of 65 locomotives was delivered by 1961, and the second was delivered by 1962. A total of 98 locomotives of the three main variants were produced. On regular flights, the Type 3 quickly became a characteristic feature of the entire southern region, especially the southeastern section, and served as the main means of passenger and cargo transportation to Dover. In addition, these trains carried steel between Sheerness and Willesden, cement, worked as repair trains, and so on. They were also used in the South West, where some of them were equipped with SR rolling stock equipment, which allowed them to operate as push-pull locomotives on routes departing from London Waterloo station to Salisbury and Weymouth. Such a large-scale success in modernizing key routes throughout the southern region has attracted close attention to Class 33 locomotives. It is probably for this reason that 29 of them have been preserved and are in stock (and some are suitable for operation on main lines) — a good result for trains that are 60 years old. Two of the surviving ones — D6566 (33048) and D6575 (33057), "Seagull" ("Seagull"), found shelter on the West Somerset Railway line, both in working condition and in classic green coloring BR. BR Class 33 in Train Sim World will complement the presented locomotives BR Class 47 and BR Class 09 The legacy of the West Somerset Railway diesel locomotives. Please note: To use this add-on, you must install Train Sim World: West Somerset Railway (sold separately).
