While the Spiritualists strive for their goal, and the Return is looking for a mythical Land, the possessed Emperor, with the help of his automatic bases, Governors, builds the Empire of Spanja and creates a Mechanical Spiritualist designed to help in the discovery of new worlds. One of the Viceroys tests this device, which leads to the appearance of a superintelligent Mechanical Messiah, the discovery of a parallel chain of Spanj worlds, an encounter with mythical Lost Exodus Frames and traces of an alien mysterious race.
