Sons of Valhalla combines side-scroller type battles and base building strategy in a beautiful pixel world of the Viking age. You play as Thorald Olafson, a warrior seeking to find the Jarl who burned down his house, stole his beloved and fled to distant England. You can´t win in unfamiliar lands alone. We need a hird and a fortress from where you can start searching and conquering. Build a fortress and strengthen it by extracting resources. Personally lead the warriors into battle to fight the enemies and lay siege to their settlements. BUILDING A STRATEGIC BASE Building a base is very important in your quest. Develop cities and actively manage the economy, or raid neighboring villages to take what you need. Gradually accumulate strength to challenge the military might of the enemy. Conquer villages, gather resources and recruit supporters. Create and upgrade different buildings to obtain resources, store supplies, train or empower your warriors. Turn developing villages into powerful fortifications that will provide you with well-armed troops and powerful siege engines. Fortify your villages in case of an attack, because the enemy will not sit idly by and wait for your invasion. Conquered border towns are disputed territories: if they are not well protected, they can easily be retaken. Raid nearby settlements that you are not yet ready to conquer and hold. Take everything you can carry. Reduce the number of the enemy. Then wait for time, come back stronger and join the territory of the weakened enemy. TACTICAL COMBAT As soon as you have a fortress and your warriors are ready for battle, the time of conquest will come. Lead the hird by giving commands, using special abilities and formations. But remember: a real warrior is in front, so be ready to take up a sword to fight side by side with your people. Form an army of different types of troops: from simple swordsmen and archers to well-armed and protected warriors. Using the right troops in the right situation is the key to victory. Give orders to face any situation and adapt to it. Order your men to follow you or attack the enemy. Declare a military retreat when the tide of battle turns against you. Or form a shield wall and defeat the enemy using this truly Viking tactic. Break through the enemy´s shield wall and cut it with your blade, or become a bow and spear master to destroy the enemy from a distance. Stand with your fighters, cover their backs during the retreat and lead the attack. After a hard battle, while your warriors are recuperating, you can go alone to neutral territories to find treasures or raid. SIEGE WARFARE Siege engines are needed to destroy powerful enemy fortresses, as well as to protect their own. Smash through gates and walls with catapults and battering rams. Hurry up to destroy enemy trebuchets throwing boulders at your troops.
