86. Justify the determination of peroxides and aldehydes in medical ether using the FS 42-3643-98 method:
Peroxides: 20 ml of the substance are shaken with 2 ml of a colorless solution of potassium iodide in a cylinder with a ground stopper with a capacity of 25 ml and left in a dark place for 1 hour; no yellowing of either the ethereal or aqueous layers should be observed. The aqueous layer is compared with the original potassium iodide solution.
Aldehydes: 10 ml of the substance is shaken with 1 ml of Nessler´s reagent in a test tube with a ground stopper with a capacity of 15 ml for 10 seconds. and leave for 1 minute. A yellow-brown color may appear, as well as clouding of the layer. The formation of sediment is not allowed. Confirm your answer with reaction equations
