A bright light cuts through the night sky. The wind is raging outside the thin walls of your wooden hut. A wolf howls in the distance. Looking at the meager supplies in your backpack, you sigh as you remember the days before the mysterious power outage. How much longer can you survive?

The Long Dark is a thoughtful game focusing on survival and exploration, where players will have to make their own decisions as they travel through a vast, cold wilderness that has suffered a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies in it - just you, the cold and what Mother Nature has in store for you.

WINTERMUTE, part of the first story-driven season of The Long Dark, is two out of five episodes. In December 2018, in the Redux update, we radically redesigned both episodes: we changed the task system, rewrote the plot, dialogue, animation, and more.
⭐ EPISODE 1. “Don’t go humbly”
Long-haul pilot Will McKenzie (the player character) and Dr. Astrid Greenwood are separated when a mysterious flash of light causes their plane to crash in the wilds of northern Canada. Desperate to survive and find Astrid, Mackenzie comes to the town of Milton, where she begins to realize the scale of this silent catastrophe.
⭐ EPISODE 2. “Light Fugue”
Mackenzie´s search for Astrid leads her deep into the snow-covered wilderness. Perhaps the mysterious trapper will be able to help him, but can he be trusted?

The first two episodes of WINTERMUTE take approximately 15 game hours to complete. The next three episodes are included in the price of the game and will be unlocked for free upon release.

The characters were voiced by Jennifer Hale, Mark Meare, David Hayter and Elias Toufexis (third episode). Music composed by Chris Velasco.

Survival Mode, a free-flowing, survival-oriented, storyless sandbox mode, has been polished for nearly three years in Early Access.

Your goal is survival, and death is the only end of the road. Write your story in every game.
✔️ NO HINTS
The game encourages players to make their own decisions, providing players with information but not answers. You must earn your right to live.
✔️ PERMANENT DEATH
If you die in Survival Mode, your saved game will be deleted. Every decision matters. [WINTERMUTE does not use the permadeath feature.]
✔️ BODY CONDITION AND CALORIES
Monitor your hunger, thirst and temperature, trying to find a balance between searching for resources and the effort expended on it. Every activity uses calories, and time is your most valuable resource. Think before you act.
✔️ LOOK FOR SUPPLIES
Over 100 pieces of equipment including tools, lights, weapons, first aid, clothing and more.
✔️ HUGE LIVING WORLD
Explore 50 square kilometers of northern Canadian wilderness in search of supplies. In winter. Dynamic changes in time of day, weather, presence of wild animals and other factors only complicate this process.
