Activating the code statusa account does not get gold, you will be able to play multiplayer on silver account (except for some premium games) and download a limited content.

FAQ:
1) Q) My code says invalid what should I do?
A) Please make sure that you entered it correctly, that you currently don´t have xbox live gold, and that your account hasnt been suspended due to non payment of fees.
2) Q) Can I redeem more then one code to stack up time?
A) No these codes can only be used one at a time. Wait for the first code to run out before adding an additional code.
3) Q)I redeemed the code but I can´t play online what should I do?
A)This is not a common occurrence but the solution is ease. Delete the account off your xbox and then download it again.
4) Q) Im trying to play a game but it says I need xbox live gold whats wrong?
A) These are 48 hour trial codes there are some limitations. You cannot play in ranked games for example. Try a different playlist.

Note: Trial keys may be used only on accounts on which the Xbox Live Gold subscription had not been activated before.

You cannot use these codes if:
You currently have gold (wait for gold to expire then use)
You´re currently using a trial (wait for it to expire, only 1 code can be used at a time)
You have an outstanding balance on your account (your account status will show as suspended, you will need to pay that balance first before you can use it)
To use an Xbox Trial code you also might need to change the region on your Xbox to the United Kingdom/United States or Canada
if you have your region set anything apart from the United Kingdom, USA or Canada then you may have to change your region.
